Final Details

Location

Chipperfield Common, Chipperfield, near Kings Langley, Hertfordshire

NGR:            TL 043015
Postcode:     WD4 9BS
Latitude:       51.7038657 N
Longitude      0.4907885 W

Chipperfield Common has an area of 47.5 hectares and is mainly deciduous woodland. Some parts are runnable although others have denser vegetation; there is a widespread path network. The area was open healthland used for grazing until the 1930s and there are a number of historical features including two round barrows.

Directions and parking

From the roundabout at M25 junction 20 take the A4251 towards Kings Langley. M25 junction 20 is signposted A41 Hemel Hempstead and Aylesbury; the signs do not mention the A4251 or Kings Langley until you are on the slip road. After 0.6 km continue straight on at a roundabout keeping on the A4251 (Watford Road later becoming High Street). In Kings Langley village follow signposts to Chipperfield turning left into Langley Hill (about 1.3 km from the M25) and then, after the road has turned to the right, left into Chipperfield Road. Continue for about 3km to a crossroads with “Stop” sign. Turn left into The Street which after 350m leads to a crossroads at the North corner of Chipperfield Common.

There is a car park on the right on the road running South East (straight on) from  this crossroads and one on the left on the running South West (right). Registration will be located in an open area between these car parks. There is further parking beyond the church on the road to the South West. These car parks are free. Please do not use the private car parks on the other side of the roads.

If you are using a satnav it is likely to tell you to turn off the road from Kings Langley earlier than described above. This route (which is slightly shorter) approaches the final crossroads from the North East so you should go left or straight on to reach the car parks.

If approaching Kings Langley from the North on the A4251 the signposted route for Chipperfield is slightly different turning right into Vicarage Lane which continues straight on into Chipperfield Road.

If approaching from London on the M1 you should leave the motorway at junction 5 and follow the A41 to reach the junction 20 roundabout. It is not possible to join the M25 from the northbound M1.

Note that the road out from Kings Langley towards Chipperfield is likely to be congested around 3:15pm due to school traffic.

There is a limited bus service to Chipperfield (Red Rose 352).
